History of Simei Briskwalking Group
As mention, the woman behind everything is Mdm Kartini.
This free spirited woman was always up for a challenge and always want to contribute to the society with her abilities.
After vast job experiences and becoming a mother of 3, she thought of something that she could relate with society. She thought of the problems she faced in life similar to other people.
And what more if its not getting back to your figure. She knew that most mothers, especially malay mothers have problems in looking after themselves. Mothers tend to care about the family, the housechores, food and every needs of a family member but themselve. They tend not to have time to look after themselves, their weight and people to talk to them. (yea like their problems)
She wanted these women to get out of the house, exercise, meet friends to achieve a healthy lifestyle and have someone to talk to release their problems. She wanted something that is cheap and easy to follow. So she decided on Briskwalking.
She started getting her circle of friends to wear sports attire and briskwalk around simei and tampines. Subsequently, she called the radio station to advertise this briskwalking group.The numbers grew...and my Kartini decided that the group needs structure.
She assign some of the people in the group to be leaders to a group of women. These leaders will take charge of them. The leaders will call the people in the group if there are any new information or gathering needed to be known.
Yup ...Kartini organize exercising activities (jogging, hiking, cycling, swimming)at various locations in singapore ...so besides just briskwalking around their housing estate, Mdm Kartini organize various activities and get her leaders to handle the people in her group.
This group, known as Simei Briskwalking Group increase every year and gain loads of popularity. Mdm Kartini however was soon bored of briskwalking...and wanted to try new areas...and explore other areas. This is when Kebayarobics comes into the picture.
